Many article marketers spend a majority of their time writing their article while inadvertently ignoring or half-stepping their article title and resource box.

Unfortunately, this is probably the worse think an aspiring article marketer could do and it could very likely destroy their article marketing campaign’s ROI before it even gets a chance to get started.

Here I will tell you how to construct an article title that is appealing to both web surfers and search engine spiders by providing information that will hopefully convince you not to throw any poor performing title on your finished article prior to publication.

When you start to develop your articles and their titles you need to make sure you understand the purpose of your article and its title because there are many different ways to create an effective traffic generating article title.

Title Length – A money making/traffic generating title will generally be long enough to incorporate the main keyword phrase and the secondary keyword phrase that the article is targeted for.

Article titles should not be confused with domain name length where shorter is better. A 2 word title is probably going to do nothing for your page views and search engine ranking. A general rule of thumb is to keep the title less than 100 characters in length. This provides ample opportunity for you to use multiple keyword phrases (good for the search engine spiders) while adding a small bit of sensationalism (good for the web surfers).

Here are three examples of titles I consider to be poorly constructed because they provide little search engine optimization benefit and very little to no sensationalism/excitement for a human reader.

The titles are as follows:
Misbehaving dog
Wedding DJ
Wind Surfing Tips

If I were to modify these article titles in order to improve their chances for success at generating page views and ranking potential within the organic search engine results I would use the following titles instead.

Dog Taming Teens – 3 Tips on Getting Your misbehaving dog to Behave

Hiring A Wedding DJ – 5 Tips On Selecting The Right DJ for Your Wedding Celebration
10 Hot Windsurfing Tips for a Summer of Fun

That was just a very quick shot at changing the article titles to inject a little bit more sizzle in them. Truthfully I would spend well more than the 30 seconds I took to modify each article title but I wanted to show you that right now articles continue to get submitted with article titles that are not doing much to help the actual article obtain page views.

In conclusion - Remember, your title is your version of honey for the fly (web surfers). You need to make sure your title is not boring or drab and that it clearly indicates what your article is about in order to attract the human visitors.

Your title also needs to be keyword rich, preferably with 2 keyword phrases all related to your niche topic in order to attract the search engine spiders. If you create a proper article title it can actually be an important component/part of your overall article which will reveal the quality of your article, help it get picked up by more publishers of articles and ultimately attract more readers.
